Jeffords Steel and Engineering Company was founded by Larry and Judy Jeffords in Plattsburgh, New York in 1985. Operating out of a modest 30 x 30 rental space, they sold hollow metal doors and frames as an authorized Ceco Door and Russwin hardware distributor. Larry, a Professional Engineer in four states, also marketed structural steel products to local contractors.
In 1987 Jeffords Steel and Engineering Company moved to its present location on Route 22 south of Plattsburgh, and in 1989 opened its Steel Service Center. The "across the counter" concept has allowed the customer to have steel cut, welded or bent to whatever specifications are needed.
Having been in the hollow metal business for seven years, a hollow metal fabrication shop was a natural next step in the evolution of the company. This 1992 addition gave Jeffords the ability to store and fabricate hollow metal products in-house. This department expanded again in 2005 when it added a sales and service office in Winooski, Vermont.
Jeffords Steel and Engineering added a second facility in Potsdam, New York in 1999. The expansion has given them the edge with greater buying power, increased production capacity and even better delivery time.

As the company grew, structural and ornamental steel fabrication became the centerpiece of Jeffords Steel. Jeffords Steel provides manufacturers, schools, institutions and contractors with structural steel engineered to the customer's needs. This type of precision design has been the key to the Company's expansion.
In early 2000, Jeffords added a computer controlled Beam-Line system that streamlined the fabrication operation, effectively doubling their production capacity. With increased efficiency came faster delivery for their customers.
Today Jeffords Steel and Engineering Company's three facilities cover over 12 acres, with a combined 60,000 sq. feet of space and over 100 employees. They maintain a full fleet of vehicles, which allows them to effectively service northern New York from Watertown to Plattsburgh, all of Vermont, western New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts.
